R'R for Jan 2010

Ray’s Ravings for the month of January 2010

Started the month by getting the laptop talking to the new printer. Put the CD driver in and everything was going smoothly until I had to attach the printer to the computer and found I didn’t have the USB flex for between the printer and the computer. So up to the shop and bought one for $10 plugged it in or tried to and because I had decided it should go in one way I had one dickens of a time plugging it in the way it wanted to go in. I didn’t have any trouble turning it on!!! At that moment in time I thought it was all beyond me and that I was born too late.
While uptown I had a pleasant happening, I visit Tony in one of the shops there and over the years I have admired this imitation brass engraved ancient map of the world on his office wall. I said to him that if he ever wanted to get rid of it I would like to have the first offer. Well, he said to take it and gave it to me. I have since mounted it over the fireplace and it looks wonderful.
At the same time I noticed a vacuum cleaner, a demo and told him I would have Rosemary look at it. our vacuum is loosing its suction after many years of faithful labor. So, went and got Rosemary and she thought it would be a good idea and we now have another machine for $99.
On the 5th of the month drove over to Rotorua and picked up Marion our granddaughter all the way from Melbourne Australia. She and some friends had been doing some touristy things and she wanted to come over and see us of course. She stayed overnight and we had a great visit and got to know her better. Got on a bus and headed back to Auckland before returning to Aus.
I know a lot of you think Putaruru is a pretty quiet place and like a cemetery on a Sunday but it has its moments. A couple of kids lit a fire in one of the dispensers in the women’s side of the public toilets and did it smoke and we happened to see it all. The Fire Dept. is just across the street from the place and didn’t take long to put out the blaze. It is still out of commission.
12th. they have been doing some renovations to a house just up the street and had pulled down a brick chimney I think and had all the rubble piled out front by the street. It has been there for some time. I noticed as I walked by someone working there and inquired about this pile and whether it was just rubbish destined for the tip. He said take all you want and so up with my trailer and about four loads later I had enough bricks to line the foot-paths on either side in front of the house. Had to chip the mortar off some of the bricks and was it ever on there while Rosemary laid them along.
28th Rosemary has been very busy in the garden and being a sunny day we decided to do the part of the Waikato River Walk in the shade. We did if from the dam to the lookout overlooking Jones Landing. There we were looking out over a million dollar view in the peace and quiet when about four kids turned up and yelled and screamed to their friends at Jones Landing. They then returned and it wasn’t long before we had about twelve trail workers hanging over the rails admiring the view. Then, we had the place to ourselves as they left to hack and clear. On the way back to the car we passed a swimming spot that had a bunch of kids swimming and two pups guarding the clothes. They began to tumble around making me wet up the back of my legs and then following us along with one of the bigger lads chasing after them to bring them back to guard the clothes. Most of the time you don’t see anyone anywhere along the track. We also had two power boats and three Kayaks all up the river to give it a bit of colour.
