Nana & Grandpa have a bingle, Kiriwai goes through the
Temple, watched Jordan play rugby in Sydney and Austin’s band plays.
On the first of the month
Nana and Grandpa had a little bit of a bingle in the car in Canberra. They were
going to pick up Ezra from rugby and Grandpa lost control in the wet and ended
up in the ditch upside down. They came away with some great bruises and they
kept Nana in hospital to keep an eye on her.
With Ellen and Dylan out of
the house Vern wants them to come over on Sundays for dinner. We will see how
that goes but it was nice to have them over today with Glen, Jordan and Laura.
Everyone had a good laugh especially when Vern knocked a drink in my lap.
I
went on splits with the missionaries and on Thursday we went with Ellen to the
Temple. Friday I came home to an empty house, everyone was out doing their
thing so I did my thing at home, just were I like to be.
Saturday
the eighth was a nice warm day so Vern and I went for a walk at Westerfolds
Park near Eltham. It is amazing how nicely maintained the parks are when they
are in rich suburbs. There wasn’t even many flies, don’t know how they managed
that one.
Sunday
evening after we had the gang over her for a BBQ Vern and I were left by
ourselves. Carmen went over to Ellen and Dylan’s place and Austin went with JJ
and Isaac to a youth fireside down in Wantirna and stayed down there and went
to the beach with them the next day since it was a long weekend.
Monday the tenith was a
public holiday and as it was supposed to be a nice day we decided to go to the
beach. Since both Carmen and Austin had other plans it was just Vern and I. We
met up with the Dudfields when we got there but still it was very strange going
on our own. The surf was very small so I didn’t bother going out surfing
however Joel and I went snorkelling around the rocks instead. I even got Elder
Dudfield to come for a walk up the creek looking for birds, at least I was
looking for birds. It became overcast in the afternoon and then started to rain
so we headed home.
Marion came down from
Canberra on Thursday the thirteenth and we had a late birthday party for her
and an early party Ellen that evening. It was good to see her. She came down
for Jagar’s endowment which was on the Saturday. We got there in plenty of time
but the session was full so only Marion was able to get in.
That evening Mum and I went
to the wedding and reception of Ben Togiai. We took Sister Folau along as well.
It was good to see all the people from the old Thomastown Ward again but it was
a long night and the music is too loud for me.
I bought another computer on
the interweb, second hand but it goes much faster than the notebook. The old
keyboard didn’t fit so Austin and I dropped into OfficeWorks on the way to
Mutual and bought a new one.
Friday after work Vern and I
drove up Canberra. It really rained after we pasted Albury with lots of
lightening. We arrived at Marion and Jordan’s place after 1am and when straight
to sleep. The next day we headed off early to Sydney, it was a beautiful misty
sunrise. We made a stop at a place called Bargo and got a bit lost getting back
on the freeway. Then we made a wrong turn when we got into Sydney so we only
just made it into session and it was packed. Kiriwai was happy to see us when
saw her in the Celestial Room. Marion, Wal, Erin, Mahli, Milla, Tana, Michelle,
Courtney, Larry and of course Moana where all there. What a great place to meet
your family.
Jordan and his brothers were
playing in a Maori Rugby tournament in Sydney that day, uncle Tony was their
coach. We got to see the end of the grand final which they won and I got to use
the ‘sports’ mode on my camera. Dinner was at one of Vern’s friend’s place in
Castle Hill, Sheryl Campbell. I didn’t realise that Vern had any rich friends.
Her daughter is the one going out with Jordan Reti.
Sunday we headed to Canberra
and went to church with
Marion and Jordan. Then it was over to Nana & Grampa’s place for a visit.
Nana is still recovering from the accident and has her bed in the lounge room
so see doesn’t miss any of the action. From there it was to the Abels to listen
to three hours of rugby talk, I learnt new terms such as ‘grass cutter’ and
‘hand breaking’. It was nice to catch up, they are a friendly bunch.
The weekend of the twenty-eighth was the training
trek for the Mas' and Pas'. Mum and I were asked to be a Ma and Pa however Mum
hurt her ankle in NZ and Auntie Nat is coming over at that time anyway. I
volunteered to help out on the support crew so I drove up after work on Friday.
The Trek this year is on a farm property near
Meredith with is between Ballarat and Geelong. It is a lovely location; the
owners are relatives of Nick Rouse. There wasn't much for me to do so I just
enjoyed the countryside and took photos of birds. On the way home I cut through
Anaki and went for a walk up the Gorge.
Austin had his first gig for his band on Saturday
the twenty-ninth at the Wales St Primary School Fete. There were a few bands,
although Austin got some complements for his singing Vern said they need more
practice. The name of the band is Phatquad and Austin is lead vocalist.
We had a Stake Family History High Priest and
family picnic after church on the thirtieth. I went along but didn't bring any
picnic or my family. It was good actually I was able to help a couple of people
and learnt stuff myself.
