Jonathan and helpers at Sumner beach. Charlotte Crone, in the black,
is also Jonathan's helper at Jazz school.
On the 1st of February Jonathan got a go at surfing, specially set up for people with special needs. It was a bit of a grey drizzly day, but he had fun anyway and impressed people with his willingness to try things.
Our peach tree finally died. It had wonderful peaches, but it had reached the end of its natural life. The last branch fell off in a wind, probably due to all the peaches on it.
On Sunday 2nd February I was feeling a bit unwell, but flew to Napier anyway for a business trip. I woke up the next morning in the motel with my throat burning, and feeling terrible. I managed to get out and do a few visits, and made bookings to see people in Hastings and Havelock North on the following days. I kept on going for the three days, and even visited the medical centre in the night when I couldn’t sleep for the pain.
The visits went fine, but I was SO happy to get home on the Wednesday night. By then I also had a sinus infection, and went to bed for a couple of days. I didn’t really get all better for another week.
William has started fulltime employment with Creative Heuristics Limited as a video editor. He is doing a great job. You can see a couple of our efforts here:
Our stake had a “Helping Hands” service project cleaning up graffiti around the city. Mark and I went and got a sense of satisfaction at making things look nicer.
There were a few very hot days (by Christchurch standard 33 degrees is very hot.) I escaped the following day to Wellington – or rather I stayed in Lower Hutt. I had some good visits there, and in Wellington. The motel was nice, except there were heaps of really noisy cicadas. When I went out for my morning run, I had to pick my way through them, which was rather gross. The guy on the desk said a few years ago there were so many they covered the wall of the building. Ick!
Back in Christchurch, and Jessica and Seth came over for a visit, and Michael and Marian dropped in, who were over from Brisbane. Later Mark and I watched a good movie, “The Other Son”, about two boys who were swapped at birth by mistake, and they find out when one has a blood test before joining the army. The interesting angle was that one was a Palestinian and one was an Israeli Jew. It gave some interesting insights into life in modern Israel/Palestine. And of course there were interesting questions of identity.
Jonathan started back at CPIT and is happy there. He is part of the choir this semester, which is going okay. I go along with him. Jonathan also helped us with stacking our firewood, which has been clogging up the drive for over a month. He was more help than I thought he would be.
Mark has a slightly different role at work, and it means he has to go in more days. On the up side, he doesn’t have to go into the field as much.
Jessica and William have the smaller car much of the time now, so we are thinking about buying another one and letting them keep it. It would make life less complicated for all.
All the best from us!
A couple of nifty machines to get around on.
