Mebourne Pettys - June 2011

Vern and I turn forty-nine; Vern takes over writing the family history, AJ gets called to the Philippines, Dylan sees Nan and Charles and Marion goes to Queendland.

Anthony James Abel has been called to the Philippines Quezon mission and has to be in the Provo MTC in September. He got his call the day after Charles had left for his mission so the family was all in missionary mode.

I stayed in Canberra until Tuesday night to spend more time with Nat and my Mother. She has been very unwell lately it is always nice to just sit and spend time with her and I have to say she has been the single most influential person in my life as her love for the gospel and the Saviour have shaped the course of my life and the decisions I have made, so when we say Nana knows best, even in jest as Nana has said, many a true word is said in jest, she does know best and her only desire is also mine which is that all her children remain faithful and active in the gospel all the days of their life. I hope to be able to spend a few more lazy days with my mummy.
Then it was home and the routine started again with seminary and school for kids and Nathan’s meetings. I had rehearsals and the girls had their rep games in Warrandyte and Sunbury and I had a Saturday morning seminary faculty meeting which called for some of the seminary kids to come so Calvin and Carmen came as I forgot to let my kids know but I'm grateful they came and supported me.

We went to dinner at the Gibbons home which was delightful. They have a lovely home in Ivanhoe and once again great food and good company is always a recipe for success in my book of a good evening.

We celebrated Nathan’s birthday on Monday the sixth with Aunty Janet and Johnnie which was a very pleasant evening. Dad got his party, his cake and his presents so he was a happy chappy. Tuesday we had the English missionaries and they bought an investigator Sean with them who had been out with them, he is a nice guy and then Dad and the Youth kids had to go to Stake youth night and Marion had basketball.

After seven years in the Stake Presidency Nathan has a new assignment. He is no longer looking after the youth, he is now in charge of YSA and Pres Tempany is in charge of youth now. Friday the tenth I helped Dad with the Stake Youth basketball tryouts. Aunty Tina Judd is coach for U18s YW and Marion coach for YW U15. I was hoping to get to the temple as Lisa Epa-Hogben went through but I helped dad instead and took Carmen to her rep game.

Let me add a part of Elder Dylan Petty’s e-mail;

“We went on a temple trip last Wednesday and as I was waiting for the session to start I looked across and saw a wonderful little lady with paper white hair, it was my beloved Nan. It was good to see her there and as I told the missionaries sitting next to me I think I made them a little home sick because I bet they wished that they could see there grandmother, oh well I got that blessing and it was great. But it doesn't stop there as I continued my reflecting before the session started another familiar face came in. It was the brother of the Elder Abel that I sat next to in that very temple almost a year ago, yes it was, Elder Charlies Abel. It was crazy I had a flash back of when I was in the MTC with Elder Abel the older. I loved that experience and it made it a whole lot better having my cousin there with me”.

Nathan has been applying for jobs in different areas at Aussie Post and he's still flat out at work its a very time with re-structuring and all that and of course with his new responsibilities in his callings it all makes for a very busy time for Nathan. I'm working everyday this term at a few different schools from Pt Cook, through Essendon to Reservoir and Epping. Then rehearsals for Australia’s Got Talent semi final show and seminary.

Marion has just finished her mid year exams and looking forward to starting work everyday after she gets back from Brisbane. She drove up on the on the last day of the month and comes back after the weekend. Carmen is very busy with school as they're in the final stages of rehearsals for Bugsy Malone the school play
