Word from the Field (Elder Petty 24 August)

(This is editted and annotated by his Mum)
Hello once again to all and sundry,

He starts by responding to our email:
New York! One of only a few cities I must visit before I die! And you're all going while I'm on my mission! Oh, cruel fate! Oh well, take TONS of pictures, especially of the studio, and I shall faun over them in my own time. When is the trip again?

Ah, Music tour, so many memories, so little sleep. The americans may know it better as band camp, except it's only for one night. It's annoying that I found an instrument I truly love (the viola) after I had finished school! I'm actually really missing that viola, I wish I could practice it, but no instrument allowed on a mission... Holy moly William Petty wants to practice! What is this mission doing to me?

William wanted to know if he eats fast. I commented that I eat fast as I hate my food getting cold.
I hate cold food as well (except when it's meant to be cold), so I guess that contributes to my fast eating. To think, all my life I've been training for eating contests and not knowing it! By the way, my metabolism is still intact, as far as I can't see. Don't have to watch my diet yet!

Your final comment (Well done, good and faithful son) had a humorous effect on me. At first I heard the song "Carry on wayward son" in my head, and then I remembered the end of Flick the Fire Engine from when I was young, do you remember that?

Now a quick recap of the week:

I have nearly finished my first journal! How's that for sticking to it? I have never missed a single day, and even when I skip a day, I just write two entries the next day. Don't worry about sending me another one though, My companion gave me his that his mum sent to him that he never used. How Convenient/Sad!

I had a really scary experience this week. While I was at a member's house, my bike was stolen out of the driveway! We called the police, and as Elder Adams scouted ahead, I gave a prayer, of which the fervency thereof my other prayers probably should emulate more often (mum, does that sentence work?). (yes - very nicely) Half a minute after I finished, my companion turned the corner with both our bikes. he found mine in the nearby park, upside down with the rear mudguard removed. It's likely that the thieves were planning to dissemble it, and were just going to fetch their tools (elder mckinley gave a hilarious impression of the thieves at district meeting: "aw bro, our stolen bike got stolen! Call the police!"). Let me tell you, the thanks I gave in my personal prayers that night were plentiful. I'm glad we are watched over like that.

Both our baptisms this week got pushed back, but both of them truly want to change, they just need more time. It's all good.

The other thing of note that happened was that we ran into a JW who said "we know a lot more about Jesus". Man, I don't want to believe the stereotype that JW's are all arrogant, but as Mum says, stereotypes usually come from somewhere. I have learned so much about the different religions and what they believe. Is/was it the same with you guys?

Okay I need to go or the car will get a ticket, but first,
I love you all,
Elder Petty
