Melbourne Pettys

Ellen goes to Queensland with the Byers, she buys her first car and moves to the Gold Coast with Marion, Calvin turns 19,

In the first week of the month Ellen headed to Queensland with the Bryers for a family holiday, she was there for a week.

On Sunday the fourth we went with Calvin to the Brooks place so he could get his Patriarchal Blessing. It is always a treat going to the Brooks’ place as they are such lovely people. He has a magpie that he feeds that comes to the front door and he showed us a photo of himself at the Reservoir Primary School that was taken in 1939. That evening I spoke at the Stake YSA fireside that we held at Eltham. Vern came with me and Dylan, Marion and Calvin came when they finished at the Mission Prep class in Glenroy.

Tuesday the sixth was a public holiday and we had our Stake Basketball tournament at the Diamond Creek Stadium. It was a good day, Vern, Carmen, Calvin and Austin all played and had a good time. Austin was the tallest in our ward young men’s team.

Ellen bought her first car on the ninth, a 1994 Suzki Vitara she got from her friends Em and Jess. That evening she drove it to the YSA Ball in Werribee and it went fine. Then on Sunday Evening of the eleventh her and Marion started headed to the off in the new car to live in the Gold Coast. They have both got jobs up there and will be staying with Kay and Aaron Hettig until they get their own place. They stayed with their Auntie Ena in Albury that night then with a friend in Sydney the next night arriving on the Gold Coast on Tuesday. I was relieved that they and the car made it up there.

Calvin turned nineteen on the thirteenth, but since Ellen and Marion were going to Queensland and Dylan works on the other side of town during the week we had the party on the Saturday before.

Carmen had all of her exams this month and had the last one on the twenty third. She is now on holidays but is working two or three nights a week at Subway saving money for a school trip to the USA next year.

Vernice has been very busy working with her schools putting on their end of year concerts. She also was a fair bit of band work this time of year and shows with the Sisters and Misters so we haven’t seen her much of her as she has been out a lot.

Dylan had Saturday the twenty fourth off so was home when I got home from work on Friday which was a nice surprise. He was keen to make the most of it so went out with Calvin that night and then took Austin with him the next day to run so errands. Sunday was the Seminary Sacrament meeting so all the students and Vernice gave talks. They are a very impressive group and Vern has done a great job.
