Ray’s blog for April 2010 and all that. While the world here and there blows itself up, we in Putaruru continue on sweeping the foot paths, feeding the cat, trapping mice and poisoning rats.
Then a great day arrived on the 13th when we bought for $142.00 a gizmo for taking one’s blood pressure. Finding out that we have high blood pressure and will probably not live for another seven years. Thank goodness for that.
On the 16th went for an old time tour to Whakamaru, then continued on to Mangakino, Waipapa, over the bridge and up the west side of the Waikato River and so over the dam at Arapuni to 130. There is some interesting country through there and wouldn’t mind a life style block there.
Then on the 26th Janet and Johnny turned up for a few days visit with Johnny doing one of his marathons in Rotorua. We had a great talking session and didn’t get away until the afternoon the next day. We went off to Kawhia via Kihikihi and Te Awamutu. Bought a couple of 10 ¢ books, Mark, and some other books. Across the street we had a look at Nathan’s Chopper and Janet and Johnny duly surprised and impressed.
So on and over the twisty turny road and down into Kawhia looking for a place to bed down for a night and tried Rosamond House built as a boarding house in 1901. It then went through metamorphoses of private dwelling, doctor’s house, hospital, and bed and breakfast over the years. The couple that own it now have spent a lot of money and time fixing it up and even have a swimming pool. All in all it was an interesting and one-off place to experience. Of course so is Kawhia. We went down to Ocean Beach the next day and walked along about four kilometers of it with Rosemary powering away and me trying to keep up with her and failing.
So away the next morning and managed to find Putaruru was still there. Off to Tokoroa the next day and walked around the lake. Had a look at a house that was for sale and Johnny said he would tear it down and rebuild.
So the next morning arrived and they were off for Rotorua and at this moment if all went well are back in Australia.
Meanwhile I am reading an autobiography by Stephen Fry what a character, my form of escape from time.
So endeth the month.
Hope all of you are well and that our two new missionaries will have a successful mission.
I will now go and sweep the paths of leaves, open a few emails, look at all my possessions and be overcome by the things of this world. Ray the Raver.
