The monthly contribution for O.P.L. for the month of October 2009

We had a visit from Mark and Nicola and a great old talking fest. Then we went to Tirau and they treated us to dinner at Loose Goose. I believe we all enjoyed the food and the company. Returned to 130 and they were soon off to Hamilton for the night.
This has been a month of clean-up after the great tree chop. Rosemary has been doing a lot of work in the garden, even with her back bothering her. I have been my usual lazy self, but even I have been doing something. For instance, cutting out the Yucca, the dying grapefruit tree, cutting down and rooting out the lemon tree that has never done anything. I also pruned the bamboo by the garage door down almost to the concrete. Cut all the shoots on the strawberry tree back to the stump and a few other little jobs.
Then we had a short and sweet visit from Vernice, Ellen, Carmen and Austin. They met us at the chapel in Tokoroa being a Sunday and then we came back to 130 for lunch and a good old talk and so they off in their borrowed Jeep for Auckland. They are over for a family reunion.
We both went uptown to have our eyes tested and that cost $70 each. Rosemary got some special frames with magnetic clip-on sunglasses, and anti-glare lenses and that cost over $1000.00
He told me I should have an operation for cataracts and that would cost between 4 and 5 thousand and I think I’ll give it a pass until it really bothers my sight. Right now I wouldn’t know it was there.
So, even getting old costs me. They haven’t got my money yet! There is one good thing about it (the cataract) and that is that if it gets real bad I won’t be allowed to drive!
So here I sit wondering what else to say and only thinking that I might as well wish you well for another month, keep out of the way of moving vehicles, and remember that thinking of others is the big one!!
All the best and love from the old fellow. Ray
